50 Inhalant Allergy (IgE) Panel
The root cause of any allergic reaction, whether mild or severe, can always be traced to antibodies called IgE. The body produces antibodies as a reaction to a foreign substance. IgE antibodies serve as a kind of memory protein that recognizes and attacks that substance in the future. The reaction of an IgE to its target releases histamine, which causes the symptoms we associate with allergies: difficulty breathing, runny nose, itching, redness, and, in extreme cases, anaphylaxis. This extreme inflammatory reaction can be dangerous or even deadly for some.
The 50 Inhalant Allergy (IgE) Panel assesses your body’s IgE antibody response to 50 different airborne allergens, including pollen, mold, dust, and animal dander. Pollen from trees, grasses, and weeds is a common trigger for allergies in sensitive individuals. However, each type of pollen is unique to the plant that produces it. Most individuals are not allergic to all pollen, but to the pollen of specific plants. The same is true of mold, dust and animal dander. Because airborne allergens tend to become more prevalent in warm, dry, windy weather, many people who experience “seasonal allergies” may benefit from testing to determine the specific cause of their symptoms. If you have a specific substance that you are interested in, talk to your local Any Lab Test Now for more information about this test.
